DNA computing uses DNA and biochemistry technologies instead of silicon chip technologies. It’s conceptually same as parallel computing. It consumes less power compared to traditional silicon computers. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is used as fuel to heat strands which cause disassociation. For any specialized operation DNA computers are faster and also they are smaller compared to other systems built so far. The chip which has DNA integrated into it is known as a bio-chip. This technology didn’t even exist a decade ago. Now it is still in the developing stage. Adleman is the inventor of DNA computers. He published a paper on how to use DNA computer to solve traveling salesman problem also known as the directed Hamilton problem. Its aim is to find the shortest distance while traveling through many cities, while each city is visited only once. As the number of cities increase the problem becomes more and more complex. Adleman found the shortest route between seven cities using the DNA computer. Success of his theory proves that DNA computers can be used for calculating the results of complex problems. After few years researchers developed logic gates made out of DNA. Logic gates are the most important parts of a computer. But scientists and researchers believe that it will take years to develop a practical workable computer based on DNA
